A Classic Design in a Scenic Mountain Valley Established in 1996 just 40 minutes north of the city, Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club & Resort is one of the region's foundational modern courses. Designed by five-time Open Champion Peter Thomson, the layout caters beautifully to both high-handicappers and seasoned pros. Set in a peaceful valley framed by mountain peaks, the course preserves the rolling countryside’s natural topography while incorporating waterfalls and streams. Because it was built on a former fruit orchard, it boasts one of the most diverse collections of mature flora in Thailand, featuring thousands of vibrant, fragrant trees that bloom year-round. Golfers will also enjoy a cooler, less humid climate with refreshing breezes, alongside a rich presence of local birdlife.

Links-Inspired Strategy Over Distance Measuring a modest 6,969 yards and lacking championship black tees, the course instead challenges players with traditional British links-style elements. Bumpy fairways, deep pot bunkers, and tightly mown green surrounds reward strategic ball placement over sheer distance. High-lipped greenside bunkers guard every hole, and elevated greens create deceptive yardages that often cause players to under-club. Water hazards are a constant factor, making for highly memorable par-3s and a standout par-5 seventh hole that serves as the ultimate test of the round.

The Clubhouse & Amenities While the older clubhouse and on-site resort have seen better days—catering primarily to a local market—the facility still offers a full suite of amenities and an excellent golfer's terrace boasting panoramic views. Ultimately, Royal Chiang Mai is the perfect choice for players seeking a relaxed, scenic, and uniquely challenging day on the fairways.
