27 holes par 72/36 (6143/2982 yards)
Boasting the title of the closest Batam golf course to Singapore, Palm Springs Golf & Country Club sits on a sprawling 224-hectare coastal estate. It is located just a 5-minute drive from the Nongsapura Ferry Terminal, offering a clubhouse with sweeping views of a palm-fringed beach and the distant Singapore skyline. The 27-hole championship property was designed by Larry Nelson (of Nelson & Haworth) alongside IMG.
The original nine holes opened in 1989 as the Talvas Golf & Country Club before expanding to 27 holes and rebranding in 1995. While the highly challenging Palm Course was heavily redeveloped in 2002, this specific nine is scheduled to be retired in the coming years to make way for housing developments.
The resort is split into three unique nine-hole configurations, allowing golfers to mix and match layouts that blend dramatic elevation changes with dense jungle scenery:
The Resort Course (Easiest): Despite featuring steep hills that rise 35 meters, this loop is the most forgiving and beginner-friendly. The fairways are wide, and the bunkers are pushed to the peripheries. However, the greens slope heavily along with the natural hillsides, requiring careful reading before putting.
The Island Course (Intermediate): This routing follows a jungle ridge surrounded by natural mangrove swamps. Landing areas are relatively tight; if you go offline, aiming for the waste bunkers on the sides is a safer bet than losing a ball out-of-bounds in the mangroves.
The Palm Course (Most Difficult): Best suited for low handicappers, this loop weaves alongside the beach and climbs into virgin rainforest. The opening four holes are exceptionally tough—starting with a demanding par 5. The greens feature severe undulations, making it critical to keep approach shots below the hole.
Player Tip: A professional staff of male and female caddies handles the bags and offers helpful advice on course strategy and shot placement to keep your scores down.
Facilities: The clubhouse and its supporting amenities are somewhat dated, though continuous infrastructure upgrades are underway. It is wise to check on the status of any ongoing renovations before booking your tee time.
